Learn more about Abounding through our membership process
At Abounding Fellowship, we believe that every follower of Christ is called into a deep, meaningful connection with a local church body—one where they are known, cared for, and equipped to serve. Church membership is more than just an affiliation; it’s a commitment to shared faith and purpose. To learn more about why membership is an essential part of our faith journey, check out our guide on Why Membership Matters.
We invite you to join our Membership Class, where you’ll explore what it truly means to be a member of Abounding Fellowship. This class provides an overview of opportunities for discipleship, fellowship, and service—helping you grow in your faith, connect with fellow believers, and step into active ministry.
Membership in the church is assumed throughout the Bible. The way Scripture speaks about church leadership, “one another” commands, care, and correction all imply that believers are part of a specific church family. Here are some of the biblical reasons membership matters.
Hebrews 13:17 encourages believers to “obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account.” Membership clarifies whom church leaders are accountable for, providing a scope for their care and oversight. It also gives believers a clear direction on the specific leaders to whom they are called to submit.
The New Testament contains numerous “one another” commands, calling believers to love, serve, and encourage each other in tangible ways. For example, Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us to “stir up one another to love and good works… encouraging one another.” Membership gives these commands a real context within a committed community.
First Timothy 5:9-10 provides guidelines for caring for widows within the church, while Acts 20:28 calls church leaders to “pay careful attention… to all the flock.” Membership provides a clear way to know who is part of this flock, ensuring they are cared for within the local church body.
Church membership also provides a structure for accountability and restoration. For example, Matthew 18:15-17 outlines how believers should address sin, ultimately involving the church body. Membership clarifies who “the church” is for such situations, providing a context for loving correction.
Scripture describes the church as the family of God, the body of Christ, and the flock of God (Ephesians 2:20-22; 1 Corinthians 12; 1 Peter 5:2). Membership enables believers to actively participate in these roles, fostering unity and shared identity.
Our Membership Class is held on the first Saturday of each month. Here, we’ll discuss the foundation of our church family, including our Statement of Faith, church structure, and our vision grounded in a high view of God and a high view of Scripture.
